GENERAL RULES We will follow the American Cornhole Association (ACA) rules for our Cornhole Leagues http://www.playcornhole.org/rules.shtml
SPORTSMANSHIP At SoCo Sports, we facilitate fun! We hope that all participants keep that in mind when becoming involved in our leagues and social events. Although the games may become intense, you still can be competitive while maintaining good sportsmanship. With this said, any behavior deemed unacceptable by SoCo Sports staff may result in suspension and/or ejection from a game or the league. Any player that gets ejected from a game is welcome to come back the next week to play. However, if that player is ejected a second time (at any point during the season), he/she will be removed from the league and will no longer be allowed to participate with SoCo Sports, no exceptions. SoCo Sports reserves the right to remove a player or team from the league after just one incident depending on the severity of the situation.
GAME TIMES Teams will receive a schedule that will list when their team will play each week. Teams will be given an allotted amount of time to play 3 games. “Warm-up” time is to be included in the allotted amount of time that teams will have for their match.
SCHEDULE/STANDINGS League Schedule and Standings will be posted on-line throughout the season.
ROSTERS / SUBSTITUTES During regular season ONLY, teams are allowed to use substitutes if they cannot field a full and legal team. Teams are encouraged to use the SoCo Sub Program to find eligible sub(s) for their game if they do not have enough players to field a full and legal team. All rosters must be finalized by the third week of the regular season. Players added after the third week will NOT be on the final roster and therefore will NOT be eligible for playoffs.
PLAYOFFS All eligible teams make the playoffs (teams that have not abused any policies are eligible). In certain situations and depending on the number of teams in the league, some teams at or near the bottom of the standings may not advance to the playoffs. Playoffs are single elimination. Depending on schedule and facility constraints, some teams may need to play more than one playoff match per day.
RANKING Teams are ranked according to winning percentage and a points system. If two teams have the same win-loss record, then the team that has scored the most points over their opponents (point difference) will be ranked higher in the playoffs. If two teams have the exact same record and points, then the team that won during head to head play will be ranked higher. If head to head play resulted in a tie, then we will use a coin flip to rank the teams for playoffs.
FORFEITS Teams will have until 10 minutes past the designated start time to field a legal team. Teams may pick up players during the regular season in order to field a legal team. Substitutes will not be allowed during playoffs. If a team forfeits a match, the opponent will get the win and 21 points per game.
If your team forfeits a match during the season, the following rules apply: First Offense: Loss of the match and warning issued. Second Offense: Loss of the match and staff reserves the right to remove team from playoffs. Third Offense: Loss of the match and removal from the league.
How this league will work: You will get 3 games each night and will play against three different teams. There will be a 'home' team and an 'away' team each week. The 'home' team will have the responsibility to keep score. Not all teams that signed up have boards so please bring your boards each week. Depending on the number of teams in the league, you may play each team more than once. Games are played to 21, no skunk or win by 2.
Questions: How does the point system work? Every game is scored and the winning team will be rewarded the point difference (PD) for the game. For example, if Team A beats Team B 21-17, then Team A will be rewarded 4 points. Points only matter for playoffs if two teams have the exact same win/loss record. The team with the higher PD will be ranked higher and will play a lower ranked team in the first round of the playoffs.
Does every team make it to the playoffs? Yes! All teams will be ranked after Week 5 and the playoffs will take place on Week 6 and Week 7. Playoff games will be single elimination and the championship match will be best of 3 games. If a team loses in the first round of playoffs, they may be invited back to play the following week for our 'fun' bracket (if time/space is available). Cash prizes and gift cards will be given to the top 4 teams.
Can we use our own bags, even if we are the away team? Yes, most folks prefer their own bags so feel free to carry them with you. Please just make sure each 'home court' has two sets of bags so away teams without bags can play
Should we bring boards even if we are the away team? Yes! Not all teams that registered have boards so we will need extra courts when they are the home team. The schedule is preset so everyone plays each other once so we really cannot make adjustments based on who has boards and who does not. So thank you for helping us keep the league running smoothly by having extra boards out there!
Are those boards regulation size or what? We noticed a few boards were NOT regulation size. Boards must be 2' wide by 4' tall and made of solid material. Even some wood boards are made with thin tops so the bags bounce. Please see our Cornhole Rules above for more information.
Can I choose which side of the board to toss from? The home team may choose which side of the board to toss from but their partner must be on the same side, meaning partners should be directly in front of each other, not tossing from opposites sides of the boards.
How do I know if I am 'home' or 'away'? The home team is always the second/bottom team listed. For example, 2 v 7, 2 is the away team and 7 is the home team.
Do we have to win by two? Do we win if its 11-0? No, the first team to 21 wins. Scores may exceed 21 but you will only be rewarded 21 points on the official score book. Games will continue even if the score is 11-0 (no skunk rule). We want everyone to have an equal amount of playing time.
Are there gender requirements for Cornhole? No! Teams can be two men, co-ed, or even two women. We will create a competitive division and a recreational division after season one so teams can play others at their skill level.
