SoCo Rules: Dodge the Beach Tournaments
Format:
Teams will consist of 6 players, at least 3 must be women.
Teams will play until one entire team is knocked out, no time limit.
Depending on the number of teams and the time allowed, teams may play best of three rounds.
Teams will get one point for each player they have remaining after knocking out the other team.
Substitutions will only be allowed between rounds.

Opening Rush:
At the start of each round, six balls will be placed at the middle of the court.
Players must wait for the referee to blow the whistle before retrieving any balls.
Players retrieving balls must go back behind the attack line before throwing.
Any retrieved ball thrown in front of the attack line will be ruled a dead ball.
During play, players can come up to the half line before throwing a ball.
Players will not be allowed to cross the center line for any reason.  A player crossing the center line will be called out.

Rules:
Any player hit by a live thrown ball, on the fly, will be eliminated.  Live balls are thrown balls that have not contacted the ground, another player,
or a held ball.  Once a ball strikes the ground, a held ball, or an opposing player, it becomes a dead ball.
If a live thrown ball is caught by an opposing player, the player throwing the ball will be eliminated. Additionally, the
team that caught the ball will be allowed to bring back a player in the order they were eliminated (starting with
the first person removed).
Throws at someone’s head (whether intentional or not) are not allowed. Anyone that strikes another player in the
head will be eliminated and need to sit out until the next round at the referee’s discretion.  If a player ducks
in to a thrown ball to cause contact with their head, that player will be eliminated.
Players may block the opposing player’s throw with their ball.  If the player looses control of the held ball, then that player is out, even if they
regain control of the held ball before it hits the ground.  As soon as the player looses control of the held ball, the player is out.
As soon as a ball is deflected off of a held ball, it is dead.  A player is not out if they are hit by a defected ball, even if they deflected it.
Teams are not allowed to stall with the ball. All balls need to be thrown within 10 seconds. If a team consistently ignores this rule, the player
that is stalling will be removed.  This is a difficult rule to enforce so it will be up to the referee's discretion on who is stalling on purpose.
Eliminated players must stand out of bounds, in a designated area, in the order that they were eliminated. They may throw out of bounds
balls back to their teammates, but not at the opposing team.

POOL PLAY
All teams will be grouped into pools of 3 or 4.  Each team will play all other teams in their respective pool once.  There are no ties in pool play.
Each winning team will receive one point for every player they have remaining on the court, this is called the Point Difference (PD).  For
example, if Team A beats Team B and has 4 players standing when the last Team B player is eliminated, then Team A will be awarded 4
points and Team B will get 0 points.  Teams will be ranked after pool play is complete and the top teams will advance to the single
elimination playoff bracket.

PLAYOFFS
All teams will be ranked by win/loss record, then by points.  If two teams have the same record and points, then the team that won during pool
play will be ranked higher (head to head play).  Teams will be placed in their respective brackets based on rank.  For example, the 1st place
seed will play the last place seed, etc.  Cash prizes, trophies, and other awards will be presented immediately after the championship game
(s).  Captains may be asked to sign a receipt for a cash prize.
