SoCo Rules: Co-ed Indoor Volleyball
GENERAL RULES
Teams will play 3 games to 25 with a cap at 27 using "All Rally Score" scoring.  
Every time a point is finished, one team will be awarded a point, whether they served or not.
During regular season, all three games count and teams will be ranked on win/loss record, then by point differential.
All games must be played within the 1 hour time limit.  If the 3rd game starts late, play to 15, win by two with a cap at 17.
Serves that hit the net and go over the net to the opponents side will be "live" and are good serves.
It is legal to set the serve.
Any questions regarding policies, rules, or eligibility must be addressed before the start of the match.
All players are required to wear SoCo Sports jerseys at every game for the entire season, no exceptions

CO-ED RULES & TEAM SIZE
6's (3 men and 3 women)
Legal  teams must have at least four players (minimum two females) on the court at all times.
Teams will be allowed to play with 3 men and 2 women.  No more than 3 men are allowed on the court at one time.
Max Roster size is 9

SERVICE POSSESSION
A team earns service possession for the start of the first game by winning a coin toss or a Rock/Paper/Scissors. The teams will then
alternate service every other game.

ROTATION
Team members must rotate on the court and must remain in that position until the serve has been contacted. The player in the back right
hand corner of the rotation will be designated to serve and continue to rotate clockwise.
 Teams may use a Libero.

THREE CONTACTS
Each team is allowed a maximum of 3 successive contacts of the ball in order to return the ball to the opponent's area. (Exception: In the
action of blocking an attacking ball, the touch, or contact resulting from the block attempt does not constitute one of the three successive
contacts.)

ATTACKING THE NET
Only the three players that are in the front row of the rotation are allowed to attack the net. Violation of this rule would include any hitting or
blocking that occurs above the plane of the net.

SIMULTANEOUS CONTACTS
When two non-blocking teammates touch the ball simultaneously, it is considered it is not counted as a contact, and any player may make
the next contact.

When two opponents simultaneously and instantaneously contact the ball over the net, the ball remains in play and the team receiving the
ball is entitled to another three hits. If such a ball lands “out”, it is the fault of the team on the opposite side of the net from where the ball
lands.

CHARACTERISTICS OF THE CONTACT
The ball can contact any number of body parts down to, and including the foot, providing such contacts are simultaneous and the ball
rebounds immediately and cleanly after such contact.

HELD BALL
The ball must be contacted cleanly and not held, lifted, pushed, caught, carried or thrown. The ball cannot roll or come to rest on any part of a
player’s body. It can rebound in any direction.

HAND SETS
A contact of the ball using the fingers of one or two hands to direct the ball toward a teammate is a set. The ball must come into contact with
both hands simultaneously and leave both hands simultaneously to avoid a double hit call. A player may set the ball over the net in front or
behind them only in the direction in which their shoulders are squarely facing. Rotation of the ball after the set may indicate a held ball or
multiple contacts during the set but in itself IS NOT A FAULT.

ATTACKING THE BALL OVER THE OPPONENTS COURT
A player is not allowed to attack the ball on the opposite side of the net. If the ball is hit above the spiker’s side of the net and then the follow-
through causes the spiker's hand and arm to cross the net without contacting an opponent or the net, the action does not constitute a fault.

BLOCKING
Blocking is the action close to the net which intercepts the ball coming from the opponents’ side by making contact with the ball before,
during or after it crosses the net.

MULTIPLE CONTACTS
Multiple contacts of the ball by a player(s) participating in a block shall be legal provided it is during one attempt to intercept the ball. Multiple
contacts of the ball during a block shall be counted as a single contact, even though the ball may make multiple contacts with one or more
players of the block.

PARTICIPATION AFTER A BLOCK
Any player participating in a block shall have the right to make the next contact, such contact counting as the first of three hits allowed the
team.

BLOCKING A SERVE
Blocking or attacking a serve is prohibited.  However, setting a serve is allowed

BLOCKING A BALL ACROSS THE NET
Blocking of the ball across the net above the opponent's court shall be legal provided that such a block is:
• After a player of the attacking team has spiked the ball, or, in the referee's judgment, intentionally directed the ball into the opponent's court,
or has exhausted their third allowable hit.
• After the opponents’ have hit the ball in such a manner that the ball would clearly cross the net if not touched by a player, provided no
member of the attacking team is in a position to make a legal play on the ball
• If the ball is falling near the net and no member of the attacking team could reasonably make a play on the ball.

PLAYER CONTACT WITH THE NET
No part of the body may touch the net at anytime unless a ball or person driven into the net causes the contact. Player contact with the net in a
manner not directly relating to or affecting the course of play is not a violation. Contact with hair or part of the uniform will not be considered a
fault.

SIMULTANEOUS CONTACT BY OPPONENTS
If opponents contact the net simultaneously, it shall constitute a double fault and the point shall be played over.

INTERFERENCE
Beach volleyball allows any and all parts of the body to cross the center line as long as there is no interference with the opposing player.

GAMES
During the regular season matches are to be played within time allotted (warm up time is included) The format allows for 3 games to 25
points. You must win by 2 points, however, the score is capped at 27.  If the third game is started within 15min of the time limit, then the
match will be played to 15 points, win by two with a cap at 17.

REFEREE
SoCo Sports will provide one referee for our intermediate and competitive divisions.  Recreational leagues will be self reffed, meaning the
players must call their own outs, nets, and ball handling violations. All decisions made by the referee during play are final and may NOT be
disputed.  Unsportsmanlike behavior towards the referee (or any other player) will result in an ejection from the game.  

SPORTSMANSHIP
At SoCo Sports, we facilitate fun! We hope that all participants keep that in mind when becoming involved in our leagues and social events.  
Although the games may become intense, you still can be competitive while maintaining good sportsmanship.  With this said, any behavior
deemed unacceptable by SoCo Sports staff may result in suspension and/or ejection from a game or the league.  Any player that gets ejected
from a game is welcome to come back the next week to play.  However, if that player is ejected a second time (at any point during  the
season), he/she will be removed from the league and will no longer be allowed to participate with SoCo Sports, no exceptions.  SoCo Sports
reserves the right to remove a player or team from the league after just one incident depending on the severity of the situation.

FORFEITS
Teams will have until 10 minutes past the designated start time to field a legal team. Teams may pick up players during the regular season
in order to field a legal team. Substitutes will not be allowed during playoffs.  If a team forfeits a match, the opponent will get the win and 21
points per game.

If your team forfeits a match during the season, the following rules apply:
First Offense: Loss of the match  and warning issued.
Second Offense: Loss of the match and staff reserves the right to remove team from playoffs.
Third Offense: Loss of the match and removal from the league.

SCHEDULE/STANDINGS
League Schedule and Standings will be posted on-line throughout the season.  

ROSTERS / SUBSTITUTES
All rosters must be finalized by your first game.  Only players on the final roster (by the first game) will be eligible for the playoffs.  During
regular season ONLY, teams are allowed to use substitutes if they cannot field a full and legal team.  Teams can use no more than 2 subs
(non roster players) per game in order for the game to be legal.  If a team uses more than 2 subs (non roster players) the game can be
played but will result in a forfeit win for the other team.  Teams are encouraged to use the
SoCo Sub Program to find eligible sub(s) for their
game if they do not have enough players to field a full and legal team.  All rosters must be finalized by the second game of the regular
season. Players added after the second game will NOT be on the final roster and therefore will NOT be eligible for playoffs.  Maximum roster
size is 9.

PLAYOFFS
All eligible teams make the playoffs (teams that have not abused any policies are eligible). In certain situations and depending on the
number of teams in the league, some teams at or near the bottom of the standings may not advance to the playoffs.  Playoffs are single
elimination.  Depending on schedule and facility constraints, some teams may need to play more than one playoff match per day.

RANKING
Teams are ranked according to winning percentage and a points system.  If two teams have the same win-loss record, then the team that
has scored the most points over their opponents (point difference) will be ranked higher in the playoffs.  If two teams have the exact same
record and points, then the team that won during head to head play will be ranked higher.  If head to head play resulted in a tie, then we will
use a coin flip to rank the teams for playoffs.

FACILITY RULES
No Fighting, No Swearing, No Spitting.
Players will NOT have access to any facilities other than the gym floor during the season.
Players will NOT have access to towels, those are for HealthPlex members only.
Players may use the water fountains and the bathrooms adjacent to the gym floor but not the locker room.
Any items brought by Players, including towels and water bottles, must be thrown away or removed from the facility.
Players should only arrive 20min before their scheduled game time and must leave within 20min after their scheduled game time.
Only registered players will have access to the gym floor during the season, guests must stay in the designated sitting area.
Players must complete a facility waiver before playing in the league.
Each week, players must sign the guest 'check-in' clip board at the front desk.
The HealthPlex closes at 10:00pm, all Players must be completely off the premises (including parking lot) by 10:00pm.
